Thursday, October, 14, 2021 @ 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Free

Award-winning author Grace Young, dubbed the “Stir-Fry Guru” by The New York Times, presents her considerable culinary skills during a virtual stir-fry event, and will then speak about how Covid affected Chinatown, and her documentary film series on the topic. The event takes place on Thursday, October 14 at 7 PM EST. Please register at newcanaanlibrary.org for Zoom sign in.
Ms. Young will demonstrate a simple and quick stir-fry, Aromatic Vegetarian Fried Rice, with pointers on how to add meat or seafood if desired. In addition to cooking, Grace will offer a screening of a portion of her film series, Coronavirus: Chinatown Stories, which was recently nominated for the IACP media awards.
Grace Young is an award-winning cookbook author, culinary historian, and filmmaker. She has been a fierce advocate for Chinatown, never more so than in her video series Coronavirus: Chinatown Stories, which documents the toll of the pandemic on NYC’s Chinese community. In 2020 the series was shown at the Smithsonian. Young is also partnering with the James Beard Foundation on a campaign to #savechineserestaurants all across the country and has partnered with AAFE (Asian Americans For Equality) to create a fundraiser to purchase personal security alarms for the AAPI community. Dubbed the “accidental voice for Chinatown” by Grub Street, Grace’s advocacy for Chinese mom and pop businesses has been written about in Smithsonian, Vogue, and Food & Wine magazine. Grace is the recipient of James Beard Awards for her Wok Therapist comedy video and her cookbook Stir-Frying to the Sky’s Edge.
