Fire Chief to detail benefits of Community Connect at Friday meeting

Friday, August, 8, 2025 @ 10:00 am - 11:30 pm

New Canaan Fire Department Chief Albe Bassett will update the New Canaan Men’s Club about the department’s activities Friday and introduce Community Connect, a new service aimed at ‘building a safer community through prevention, preparedness and response.”
The Men’s Club meeting will begin at 10 a.m. with Chief Bassett’s comments beginning around 10:40 a.m., following the business portion of the meeting.
As Chief Bassett describes it, the department is seeking ways to better serve the town, protecting residents and property during an emergency in the most effective ways it can. “Community Connect is a free, secure, and easy to use platform that allows you to share critical information about your household that will aid first responders and emergency response personnel when responding to your residence,” Bassett says. The secure information will only be used at times of emergency only to provide the best protection to address the issue.
By signing in, residents will be asked about their home, and get pertinent information such as whether it has sprinklers and where people would likely be in an emergency, the numbers for key contacts, whether family members have mobility issues and whether there are pets in the home.
Bassett has been with the New Canaan Fire Department since October 2021. Before that, he served the Norwalk Fire Department as deputy fire chief and assistant fire chief.
The Men’s Club has openings for new members, men 55-years old and above. For information about joining, email ncmens@ncmens.org.
