Reducing and Recycling During the Pandemic
Monday, June, 29, 2020 @ 4:30 pm - 5:30 pm
FreeOn a typical day recycling can be confusing, but in a pandemic it can feel downright discouraging. Evolving health and safety guidelines plus heavy increases in household waste fuel doubts about what’s in, what’s out, and whether it’s possible to safely reduce and reuse. New Canaan recently contracted a new waste management company from Danbury, Oak Ridge Waste and Recycling, further impacting our recycling routine.
How is COVID-19 disrupting U.S. waste and recycling? How can I safely reduce and reuse? What does recycling contamination cost the Town? What’s the difference between Oak Ridge and our previous hauler, City Carting? These questions and more will be addressed during this informative virtual program.
Tiger Mann, Director of New Canaan Public Works, will be joined by Jennifer Heaton-Jones of the Housatonic Resources Recovery Authority, and Mark O’Brien from Oak Ridge, to tell us how to get recycling right. There will be time for Q&A at the end.
All are welcome at this program co-sponsored by Planet New Canaan, New Canaan Library, and the Town of New Canaan. REGISTER at https://newcanaanlibrary.org/event/reducing-and-recycling-during-the-pandemic/
