Organized in September 2015, NC Women Mean Business is a group of women from or in New Canaan, CT, who run their own businesses or organizations, are on a PTC or other non-profit board, or simply work in New Canaan. Women from New Canaan who are employed but may not be the CEO are also welcome, as is anyone in town, either gender, who holds the position of “mom” (CEO of the household). This forum permits its members to advertise; celebrates professional women/moms/volunteers of all ages and stages; serves as a support system; and provides a fantastic place to exchange ideas, event details and promotions. NC Women Mean Business itself is not for profit.
Although NC Women Mean Business began on Facebook, the group has begun to sponsor and host in-person events, the first of which was in March 2016 and entitled “Being Queen: Thoughts from the Throne,” featuring a panel presentation of six inspiring women – all with a direct connection to New Canaan.
Another in-person event was a social media how-to session for group members hosted by Darcy Smith and BJ Flagg of nurenu (a local marketing firm) in April 2016. This session was free of charge and instructed participants how to enhance their online presence.
