Understanding Executive Functioning Skills for Student Success
Thursday, November, 17, 2022 @ 6:30 pm - 8:00 pm
FreePlease join us on Thursday, November 17th from 6:30-8pm at the Saxe Middle School Auditorium to welcome guest speakers Allison Tables, MA, NCC, LPC and Susan Chandler from Effective Services as they discuss the importance of executive functioning skills in students for academic and social-emotional success.
During this lecture, they will review the challenges faced by students with difficulties that can impair learning, like anxiety or ADHD, and how we can support and lead them to success through the implementation of specific learning strategies.
The development of self-advocacy and determination are fundamental skills students must learn. This is particularly the case with children who struggle in traditional learning settings. When faced with tasks that can be simple to others, students with executive disfunction can often be left feeling frustrated and lack the motivation to participate. Therefore, students in these situations need to identify how they learn best, so they can understand and adopt cognitive approaches that improve their overall comprehension and retention. In doing so, students are able to overcome mental hurdles, identify patterns in their executive disfunction and apply relevant study skills to improve their overall academic achievement.
