Firefighters responded to Rosie on Elm Street last Thursday following an electrical fire with the wiring to the exhaust fan for the restaurant’s cooking exhaust system, officials say. The fire extended to roofing materials around the unit. No one was injured. Members of the New Canaan Fire Department checked the ceiling areas of Rosie and an adjacent bakery to make sure there were no hidden fires, Fire Chief Albe Bassett said. A sign on the popular restaurant’s door says it will be closed this week and to follow Rosie on Instagram for updates. “Thank you for your patience and support,” the sign says.

Congratulations to the fabulous New Canaan Library on being shortlisted for the 2025 “Public Library of the Year Award” from the International Federation of Library Associations. Here’s part of the citation, which notes that NCL “ticks all the boxes of what makes a really great and welcoming new library for an entire community”:
“The programming of the building gives you a feeling of a nice, light, and welcoming public living room, where the local citizens can meet up for a variety of activities. There simply seems to be something for everyone. The Mid-Century modern construction ties beautifully to the surrounding community and connects the library with the use of locally quarried stone to the downtown New Canaan village. The building is designed as an open, flexible framework for community use. Everything is designed with a human-scale and with a great sense of connectedness to the outside. This is especially true with the inviting views into the building from the streetscape and different gardens and plazas alongside the library.”
