Coming at 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 30 to New Canaan Library: New Canaan author Sarah Pierce will discuss her debut novel, “For Human Use”—an NPR “Pop Culture Happy Hour” pick—with Kris Frieswick in the Jim & Dede Bartlett Auditorium.

Congratulations to New Canaan Police Officer Nicholas Rienzi, who was unable to attend Thursday afternoon’s NCPD Awards Ceremony (where he was recognized for his marksmanship) because his baby boy was born that morning, Chief John DiFederico said. “He had other commitments, I guess,” the chief said, drawing laughter from the training room at police headquarters.

The “Hoyt-Burwell-Morse” house on Ferris Hill Road has received the prestigious 2026 Connecticut Preservation Award. Here’s part of the citation: “Dudley Schipper renovated this 18th-century saltbox as her vision for the property evolved from guest house for a new dwelling to staying within the existing historic footprint. Her work shows that with careful planning one can live comfortably in an historic house without overwhelming additions.”

Congratulations to New Canaan resident Jul Ymeraj — known to locals for Jul’s Salon on Cherry Street — on publication of her memoir, “Chasing Silver Spoons: A Memoir of Resilience and the Courage to Rise Again” (here on Amazon, check back on the Elm Street Books site to see if it appears there). It’s a “heartfelt memoir about love, loss, and the quiet strength it takes to begin again,” according to an Amazon description.

Alysia Rovinelli

New Canaan Public Schools recently named Alysia Rovinelli as the district’s New K-8 Science Coordinator, effective July 1 “She will be stepping in this role for Melinda Meyer, who was promoted to the district’s Director of Innovation and Technology last year,” officials said in a press release. “Rovenilli will oversee the district’s science programing and implementation for students K-8 at East, South, West, and Saxe Intermediate and Middle Schools.”

New Canaan’s Eleanor Flatow, director of sales at Hollis Taggart and partner at Hollis Taggart Downtown in New York City, is curating a group show at the company’s gallery on the lower east side. “Material Memory,” an exhibition that includes work from New Canaanite Hans Neleman, “brings together seven contemporary artists working across painting, sculpture, and assemblage to explore memory not as something recalled, but as something physically constructed and embedded in material, surfaces and systems,” organizers say. The six other featured artists are Megan Baker, Edward Holland, Ashanté Kindle, Cordy Ryman, Kelly Wang and Michael Wolf. The show will be on view May 15 to June 20 at 109 Norfolk St., with an opening reception on May 15 from 6 to 8 p.m.
