As the current chair of St Mark’s May Fair I would like to support the goal of making composting a basic procedure at all our town schools. We have been fortunate to have Planet New Canaan be on site for the past few May Fair events and the fairgoers are most appreciative of the composting initiative .
Thanks for all your efforts, Planet New Canaan.

Dear Editor,
I’m writing to urge New Canaan parents of young children (birth through age five) to make their voice heard this week through a short, anonymous survey.
Last year, the state passed a variety of early childhood legislation. This year, every town and city that receives state early childhood funding is participating in their own locally-crafted “Local Needs Assessment.” This brief, anonymous survey is intended to understand how well local child care and early education options are meeting families’ needs, as well as where caregivers may need additional support or resources. This is a great opportunity to provide a brand new type of local data for our community, as survey responses will help shape what our community can benefit from in the future.
The New Canaan Community Foundation is a partner in the effort to distribute this important survey. The Early Childhood Community Organization of Lower Fairfield County serves as a coordinating body in this effort, and our NCCF team has been engaged in their work. NCCF is additionally investing in early childhood efforts, both in New Canaan and in our neighboring communities, and believes this town-specific and state-wide work holds great promise – both for our youngest kids, and for the well-being of our parents and families.
The survey can be found at bit.ly/GNCFamilySurvey2026 and on NCCF’s homepage www.newcanaancf.org. The deadline to participate is Wednesday, May 27th. I hope parents of young children will participate, and spread the word with their peers.
