Sherman Lyon Baldwin, 87, of Bass River, MA, Peru, VT, and formerly, Greenwich, CT, passed away peacefully at his home on Cape Cod after a brief illness. He had spent the weekend before celebrating his 87th birthday with family and friends.

Sherman, or Sir, as he was known to many, was born to the late Sherman and Eleanor Lyon Baldwin in Boston, MA on March 1, 1928. He attended Worcester Academy, Kimball Union Academy and Dartmouth College. He served two tours of duty with the United States Marine Corps for which he was most proud. A songwriter and aspiring novelist, he was a born prankster and joker. He rarely left a room without a trail of laughter. Sir, an accomplished athlete, played football, hockey and baseball throughout school. An avid golfer, he could play, talk or watch golf all day long.

Sherman began his career as a radio announcer on WEIM – Worcester. He later joined the Worcester Telegram and Gazette as a reporter where he met his fun-loving wife, Beth Tucker. They married in August 1954 and enjoyed 54 years of marriage until Beth’s death in 2008. When his business took him to New York City in 1964, the family moved to Greenwich, CT where they resided for 39 years until his retirement in 2003 from Arcata Graphics. Both Beth and Sherman enjoyed spending their time with their four children and 12 grandchildren who adored them.

Sherman is survived by his four children, Lisa (Louis) Berizzi and Anne (Michael) Castine of Greenwich, CT, Sherman Baldwin, Jr (Susan) of Sarasota, Florida and Tucker (John) Murphy of New Canaan CT. In addition, he is survived by 12 grandchildren, Maggie Berizzi Stewart, Annabelle Berizzi, Louis Berizzi Jr, Ellie, Peter and Charlie Castine, Sarah Baldwin, Laura Suarino, Sherman Baldwin III, Abbey Gaspard, Will and Rachel Murphy and four great grand children with two on the way, his sister, Sally B. Utiger of Weston, MA and many nieces and nephews as well as countless cherished friends including Monique Crowley and her family of Barnstable Village, MA.

A celebration befitting Sir will be held May 19, 2015, 1:00 PM at the Stanwich Club, 888 North Street, Greenwich CT. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Bass River Yacht Club, P.O.
