A legal bill approved by the Board of Selectmen this week includes a $47 line item for 12 minutes of work by a lawyer at Berchem Moses PC for “Preparation of correspond to K. Moynihan re: settlement” in a longstanding legal matter involving a Putnam Road property owner. The town pays the law firm an $8,500 monthly retainer and they charge $235 per hour, according to a copy of the bill, obtained by NewCanaanite.com through a public records request.

Selectman Nick Williams during Tuesday’s Board thanked “the many folks who helped out in the EOC [Emergency Operations Center]” in the aftermath of a tropical storm that thousands of New Canaan homes lose power for days. He specifically thanked members of the Community Emergency Response Team, volunteers “and lots of people who selflessly gave time to the town.” “It has been a stressful time for all of us and I want to thank all those who helped out,” Williams said.

The New Canaan Land Trust and Carriage Barn Arts Center will hold a photography competition and exhibition dedicated to the New Canaan Sculpture Trail. The showcase will be part of the Carriage Barn’s annual “Capturing New Canaan” exhibit, which opens on Oct. 22. It will highlight selections from the Sculpture Trail’s official photographer, Elaine Lloyd, and will feature up to 15 juried photographs submitted online and selected by a dedicated exhibition committee.

The town also is incurring legal fees related to a planned terrace at the top of God’s Acre, documents show. They cover includes a half-hour for “research and review” connected to the “God’s Acre Platform,” as well as a .9-hour “Zoom call with First Selectman re: God’s Acre,” according to a copy of the bill, obtained by NewCanaanite.com through a public records request. In all, the matter cost more than $1,100 in legal fees through July, the invoice says.

Finally, the selectmen with no discussion on Tuesday approved a new slate of fees for the 2020 platform tennis courts at Waveny. They include $5 to $10 increases to the cost of permits for youth, adults and families.
