New Canaan Library is pleased to announce that Pulitzer Prize finalist Russell Banks will be speaking about his latest release, Foregone, on Wednesday, April 21 at 7 PM EST via live videoconference. Please register at newcanaanlibrary.org; Zoom sign in information will be provided upon registration.
Russell Banks, an acclaimed literary novelist whose books have been translated into more than 20 languages, will introduce Foregone, a searing novel about memory, abandonment, and betrayal. At the center of Foregone is famed, Canadian American documentary filmmaker Leonard Fife, one of sixty thousand draft evaders and deserters who fled to Canada to avoid serving in Vietnam. Fife, now in his late seventies, is dying of cancer in Montreal and has agreed to a final interview in which he is determined to bare all his secrets at last. Russell Banks gives us a daring and resonant work about the scope of one man’s mysterious life, revealed through the fragments of his recovered past.
Russell Banks is the past president of the International Parliament of Writers, and a member of the American Academy of Arts and Letters. He is the author of more than 20 works of fiction and poetry, as well as three nonfiction books. Banks has received numerous prizes and awards, including the Commonwealth Award for Literature.
