Finally, we received the following game summary regarding the 24th Annual Rich-Mich Softball Game, held Sept. 19 at Waveny:
“Playing for the Michno Marauders were; Roger Bolton, Steve McCardell, Claire McMonagle, Luke Tashjian, Marc Toland, Kevin Wilder, and captain Tim Michno. For the Richey Recidivists were: Bill Acker, Will Fornshell, Rick Kilbride, Chas and Skyler Timberlake, Cooper Toland and captain Keith Richey. John Fulkerson pitched for both teams. Bennett Toland and Maeve McMonagle acted as scorekeepers. This once a year coed multigenerational softball game has become a New Canaan tradition. The teams are picked at random. The Recidivists broke out early, with three straight hits by Skyler and Chas Timberlake, Rick Kilbride and later another by Cooper Toland, scoring two runs. This was followed by a barrage of hits in the Recidivists second inning, adding six more runs that was followed by another four runs scored in the third inning. At this point the Recidivists had a 12-0 lead that they would never relinquish. After a lull in Recidivists scoring in the fourth and fifth inning, they added another run in the sixth inning and two in the seventh inning to put the game out of reach. In batting order, the hit parade was Skyler Timberlake with 3, Kilbride and Chas Timberlake with 5 hits each, Fornshell with 3 productive hits (five RBI), Acker with 1 hit, Cooper with 3 and Captain Richey with 4 hits. In fact, Miss Cooper Toland out-hit both her father Marc who played for the Marauders and her great-uncle Bill Acker. The Marauders offense was throttled by the Recidivists’ effective infield play early in the game but they began scoring midgame and broke free for a 5 runs in the bottom of the seventh inning in an exciting come-back attempt that fell short.”
