Last Thursday afternoon, NewCanaanite.com surpassed 2 million pageviews for calendar year 2021—the earliest that the local news site has ever achieved the milestone.
So far in 2021, traffic on the New Canaanite is up 5.7% over 2020. Here’s a snapshot of total pageviews per-year over time, including the projection for 2021:

This year, the week of the municipal election was the third-highest traffic week in the history of the news site, at more than 69,000 pageviews. A series of podcasts that ran throughout the summer with each of the 10 candidates for the Board of Education in New Canaan so far has garnered a total of 3,026 uploads.
NewCanaanite.com puts out a daily newsletter that has 2,434 subscribers. It is opened by our subs at an average rate of 67.5%, and clicked-thru at an average rate of 32.2% (the figures compare to 31.4% and 8.2%, respectively, for media outlets).
The news site was launched in January 2014 by 1993 New Canaan High School graduate (Penn ’97) Michael Dinan, and is supported by local businesses and organizations that advertise.
The New Canaanite holds a free, public Community Coffee on the first Thursday of each month, held 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. at New Canaan Library. The coffee is presented in partnership with the library and with Zumbach’s Gourmet Coffee on Pine Street, which supplies the brew.
The office of NewCanaanite.com is located at 240 Elm St., used primarily to host our NCHS senior and summer interns.
