DUI Arrest for 43-Year-Old Man Who Runs Red Light

Police after midnight Monday arrested a 43-year-old Mamaroneck, N.Y. man on a drunk driving charge following a traffic stop in New Canaan.

At about 12:44 a.m. on June 26, an officer on patrol spotted a vehicle run a red light while traveling northbound on Route 123 at East Avenue, according to a police report.

During a subsequent stop in the area of Smith Ridge and Strawberry Hill Roads, the officer smelled alcohol on the driver’s breath, the report said.

The motorist failed field sobriety tests and was charged with driving under the influence.

He refused a breath test an police found that the same motorist had two previous DUI arrests in New York State and had been required to have an ignition interlock device on his car, the report said.

The man additionally was cited for traffic control signals, failure to drive right and illegal operation of a motor vehicle without an ignition device.

Police released the motorist on $750 bond and scheduled him to appear July 7 in state Superior Court in Norwalk.
