Town officials are reminding residents ahead of the presidential primaries that Connecticut is allowing early voting for the first time this year.
Voting for the Republican and Democratic primary elections for U.S. President will be held in the Town Hall registrar’s office from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on March 26, 27, 28 and 30, according to a press release issued by the town.
In-person primary voting will be held 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. on April 2 in three polling places (District 1 voting at New Canaan High School; Districts 2 and 3 voting at Saxe Middle School; and Districts 4, 5 and 6 voting at East School). Voters must be enrolled in either major party to participate.
“Polling place parking and entrances will be posted at each school,” the press release said. “For absentee voting, ballots will be available from Town Clerk Claudia Weber beginning March 12.”
Seventeen-year-olds may register and vote in the primary if they will have attained the age of 18 by Nov. 2, 2024. The deadline for registering or enrolling in a party for the primary is 12 p.m. on April 1.
“Applicants may register or enroll in person, by mail or by using the State Voter Registration website,” the press release said. “This site allows voters to also verify their status, party enrollment, and address, and to update any information.”
Those not registered but wishing to use the early voting system may do so if they file their voter registration application and enrollment in the party holding a primary by noon on the day before they want to early-vote. For more information about early voting, click here.
The deadline for unaffiliated voters to enroll in a party is 12 p.m. on March 25, but they may not vote early, and must vote in person on Primary Day (April 2).
The deadline for registering or enrolling with the Registrars or Town Clerk to vote in person is April 1.
The Secretary of State has certified the following list and order of the candidates on the Primary Ballots, according to the press release:
- Republican Party candidates are Ron DeSantis, Nikki Haley, Donald Trump, and Ryan Binkley.
- Democratic Party candidates are Marianne Williamson, Dean Phillips, Cenk Uygur, and Joe Biden.
