Police last week arrested a 34-year-old New Canaan woman by warrant and charged her with second-degree harassment.
The woman, who is the ex-girlfriend of the victim, has repeatedly harassed the victim through social media platforms, emails, texts, and calls, court documents show.
Early this June, the victim said his ex-fiancee and mother to their children notified him that his ex-girlfriend had commented under a photo of him on Facebook. The comment said, “Wondering if his ex-wife posted this – he’s a cocky jerk and i am vindictive/scheming a final vengeance! He’s also a rat.” The comment was dated two weeks before the date the victim was made aware of it, court documents show.
Police confirmed that the account and profile picture from which the comment came matched that of the ex-girlfriend and that further investigation of the profile showed more pictures of her and descriptions of her educational history which matched the ex-girlfriend’s known education, according to a police affidavit.
The following day, police responded to the front desk of NCPD to speak to the victim regarding harassment, according to the arrest warrant application filed by New Canaan Police and signed in July by the prosecuting attorney and state Superior Court Judge Robert. G. Golger.
During this meeting, police stated the victim had made previous reports regarding harassment from his ex-girlfriend and that on 12/21/2023, police had contacted the ex-girlfriend via the phone number she had used to contact him. During this phone call, the ex-girlfriend confirmed she knew why the police had called without being asked, confirmed she still lived in New Canaan, and stated she would not talk with the victim anymore, police said. She told authorities that she understood that a violation of that warning could result in her arrest, the arrest warrant application said.
After the victim was notified of the ex-girlfriend’s online comment, he searched his phone for other attempts of communication by the ex-girlfriend, according to the arrest warrant application, obtained by NewCanaanite.com. The victim stated since the police warning, the ex-girlfriend had attempted contact three other times:
- On 01/28/24 the victim received a 01:55 minute long voice message from the ex-girlfriend sent via text message. The ex-girlfriend then texted the victim saying, “i shall turn myself into the police station, don’t worry! just cannot bear the thought of having a real Enemy” and “I’ll go there as soon as back, bye.”
- On 02/04/2024 the victim received an email from the ex-girlfriend which said “sana says hi can i [expletive] you tonight. lol no idea what ur numero is.”
- On 02/05/2024, the victim received an email from the ex-girlfriend which said “come let’s meet and [expletive]”
The victim has stated he fears for the safety of his children and ex-wife as he is aware the ex-girlfriend “is currently applying for a pistol permit,” the police affidavit said. He said he “does not know what she is capable of,” it said.
On July 1, police spoke with the ex-girlfriend at her residence, where she confirmed she remembered the officer warning not to speak to the victim and she confirmed each attempt to contact the victim afterward, the arrest warrant application said. The ex-girlfriend provided the affiant a written statement which stated she would not contact the victim though she was willing to have “one last hurrah.” The ex-girlfriend was persistent that the affiant allow her to write a note to deliver to the victim, police said.
Golger signed the arrest warrant on July 10, and New Canaan Police took custody of the woman at state Superior Court in Stamford on July 17.
The woman was released on a promise to appear Aug. 28 in state Superior Court.
