Police Chief on ‘Ensuring Our Teen Drivers Are Well-Trained, Safe and Informed’

The week of December 7th is Safe Teen Driving Awareness week. Consequently, we must all work together on ensuring our teen drivers are well-trained, safe and informed. Our teen drivers face a number of safety challenges including:

Teenage drivers are involved in more crashes per mile than drivers of any other age group. Drivers aged 16 to 17 are involved in about seven times as many crashes per mile driven compared to drivers in their forties, fifties or sixties. Teenage drivers are overrepresented in crashes that result in the death of other people, such as their passengers, pedestrians or occupants of other vehicles.

Police Chief: NCPD Undergoes Exhaustive Law Enforcement Audit

Dear Editor:

During the week of Nov. 9, our Department underwent an exhaustive law enforcement audit. This audit was conducted by a team of police professionals that are assessors with the Commission on Law Enforcement Accreditation, or CALEA. Ever since the first CALEA Accreditation Award was granted in 1984, the program has become the primary method for an agency to voluntarily demonstrate their commitment to excellence in law enforcement. The standards upon which the Law Enforcement Accreditation Program is based reflect the current thinking and experience of law enforcement practitioners and embody best practices in modern law enforcement.

Police Chief: Every Veteran Deserves Our Gratitude—Be Aware of Scams

From the days of the Revolutionary War through the two World Wars of the 20th century to the regional conflicts of the 21st century as well as the ongoing War on Terror, our veterans have stood on the front lines to preserve the freedoms that we cherish. As a result, every Veteran deserves our gratitude. On Nov. 11, Veterans Day, we honor those who pledged to protect and serve our great country-our veterans. Veterans Day honors the service and sacrifice of those who have served in the U.S. Military.
