15 NCHS Student-Athletes Sign Letters of Intent To Play Sports in College

Fifteen New Canaan High School seniors on Wednesday signed commitment letters to play sports in college starting next year.

NCHS Athletic Director Jay Egan said during the school’s annual ceremony for the student-athletes that the special day is a celebration for the student-athletes, parents and coaches. “A lot of commitment on the part of the athletes, a lot of hard work—same thing with the parents,” Egan said as the ceremony started in the Wagner Room at NCHS.

He added, “Just one comment on collegiate athletics: It’s a great opportunity. So today, I think what we’re celebrating is how hard you’ve worked to give yourself a great opportunity. High school athletics is a fun time in your life. You get to play with your friends, you’re in your hometown.

New Construction Planned for Oenoke Ridge

The New Canaan Building Department on Nov. 7 issued a permit for a new 7,000-square-foot home on Oenoke Ridge. The four-bedroom house planned for 1102 Oenoke Ridge will include four full bathrooms, one half-bath and an unfinished attic and basement, according to the permit. It will cost about $4 million to build, it said. The contractor on the job is Norwalk-based KAIS Customer Builders LLC, the architect Joseph W. Moore of Greenwich.

Lawsuit Challenges P&Z Approval of Parking Structure

An alternative dispute resolution or ‘ADR’ is scheduled for Wednesday in a civil lawsuit that claims the Planning & Zoning Commission failed in its duties in approving a private school’s applications to install a new turf field atop a proposed parking structure earlier this year, court records show. A process designed to help parties in a civil complaint find resolution without going to trial, the ADR would bring together representatives of 10 plaintiff neighbors of St. Luke’s School with representatives from both the school and P&Z.

According to a revised complaint filed in August, P&Z’s approval of the private school’s applications was “illegal, arbitrary, and in abuse of the discretion vested in the Commission” in several ways. It violates the local zoning regulations and state law, according to the complaint filed by attorney Joel Green of Bridgeport-based Green and Gross, P.C.

P&Z’s decision also “was not reasonably based upon the record” or “evidence, documents and information” produced by St. Luke’s, and the application itself “misstated and mischaracterized the true state and condition” of the North Wilton Road property, the complaint said.
