Police on Monday arrested a 46-year-old New Canaan man and charged him with fourth-degree criminal mischief and disorderly conduct.

At about 3:40 p.m. on Jan. 16, officers responded to an Old Stamford Road home on a report of a dispute between the man and another occupant of the residence, police said.

Following an investigation, police arrested the man on the misdemeanor charges and took him into custody, it said.

Police withheld details of the incident, saying it’s a domestic matter.

Under state law, a person is guilty of fourth-degree criminal mischief if he or she “intentionally or recklessly … damages, tampers with or removes any tangible property owned by the state, a municipality or a person for fire alarm, smoke detection and alarm, fire suppressant or police alarm purposes,” among other reasons.

The man was released on $25,000 bond and scheduled to appear Tuesday in state Superior Court.
