Congratulations to Steph Benko, who ran the NYC Half Marathon on Sunday in a time of 1:18:47. She finished 18th in the women’s division, beating out some of the professional runners. Steph placed 190th overall—there were 24,717 total runners. (“Cleary, she had an angel cheering her on,” proud mom Sue Benko said.)

A black bear, likely the same one spotted Tuesday night on Ludlowe Road, was chased up a tree on Canoe Hill Road by two dogs at about 9:24 p.m. Wednesday, officials say. When the dogs left, so did the bear, according to police.

Waveny’s independent living community, The Inn, recently toured the new New Canaan Library. “All of the enthusiastic readers at The Inn are thrilled to enjoy this space filled with natural light, books galore and cozy nooks to sit and read,” organizers of the visit said.

Congratulations to New Canaan resident Claire O’Hare on joining the board at DAE, a nonprofit organization democratizing access to 21st century digital career and life skills for underrepresented youth. O’Hare joined Facebook in 2008, launching and leading sales development and strategy for the rapidly growing global sales teams. Prior to Facebook, O’Hare launched Yahoo!’s first sales training and executive leadership development initiative. She also founded Livewell Design, an e-commerce fine jewelry line, which scaled to over $3 million in sales and was sold to OpenStore in January 2022.

Police said Thursday that they’ve closed an investigation into trespassing at the legacy “1913” building on the New Canaan Library campus. The remnants of that little structure, which has just two sides and is undergoing asbestos abatement at the privately owned library property, soon will be moved out of the way of a planned town green.

Hi Fanny, I’m pretty sure there are disabled spaces on the site, though the main library parking is in the Center School Lot (the library is paying the town to lease the spaces).
