The repaved and reconfigured “western lot” near Waveny House is two weeks from reopening, officials say.

Approved this summer after the Board of Selectmen called for more information, the approximately $480,000 project will see the number of spaces double in the heavily used lot.

“It’s coming out very nice,” Public Works Director Tiger Mann told NewCanaanite.com in an interview.

The contractor has remade the western side of the lot with “pervious pavers” instead of asphalt, which will help with drainage, Mann said.

“He’s got all the granite in,” he said. “He’s working on the grading on one side, and he’s already started to grade the other side, the sidewalk. He’s got about two weeks left. All the lamppost foundations are in, everything’s good to go. And then he’s just got to finish the sidewalk piece.”

The paving company, FGB, could not come this week, so the lot will get repaved next week, Mann said.

“It will be looking really nice at that point in time,” he said.

It will have 17 more spaces than before, officials have said.

The selectmen in July asked to have a site visit prior to approving funding for the project, citing concerns about impervious surfaces and the need for the work. The town contacted 10 contractors regarding the project and received two bids, with New Canaan-based Peter Lanni Inc. submitting the lowest bid.
