Police on Wednesday night arrested a 62-year-old New Canaan man and charged him with driving under the influence.

At about 9:19 p.m. on March 17, an officer on patrol saw a vehicle run a stop signal at Cherry Street and South Avenue, according to a police report.

During a subsequent stop, the officer observed signs of impairment in the driver, the report said.

After conducting field sobriety tests, police took the Heritage Hill Road man into custody and transported him to headquarters for processing on the misdemeanor charge.

The man provided a blood-alcohol sample of .15, nearly twice the legal limit of .08.

Police additionally cited the man for failure to comply with the traffic signal.

He was released on $250 bond and scheduled to appear April 15 in state Superior Court.
