Dear Editor,

On Thursday September 1st the 6th Annual Community Addiction Awareness Vigil will be held (rain or shine) in the pop-up park at the corner of Elm St and South Ave.  The event begins with live music at 6:30 PM followed by 3 speakers who will share their experience, strength and hope.

This is an occasion for the community to come together, allowing others in recovery as well as their family members and friends to listen and support people struggling to overcome addiction and attain the benefits of sobriety. The event is a way for our town to demonstrate an open and compassionate mindset, facilitating an ability to match available resources with people in need.

Having attended the Vigil myself multiple times, this is a powerful celebration of a working solution to addiction.  Sadly not all sufferers find this solution in time to save their lives. The Vigil will also celebrate and memorialize the lives cut way too short.  What family hasn’t been in some way affected by addiction?  I invite and encourage attendance.  The Vigil is truly a heartwarming and eye opening experience.

Very truly yours,

Jeff Dobbs
