To the Editor:
On August 11th, a severed deer head was found in the driveway of the home of a Democratic town official. The town official was justifiably disturbed by the discovery and has asked to remain anonymous. While circumstances clearly indicate that the placement of this deer head in the driveway was an intentional act, the motives of the perpetrator are not known at this time. The New Canaan Police are actively investigating with the help of the FBI. As Chairs of the New Canaan’s Democratic Town Committee and Republican Town Committee, respectively, we hope that the police identify both the perpetrator(s) and the motive. We also sincerely hope that the act was not a form of political retribution. Our town officials, elected and appointed, provide a valuable and selfless service to our community. They deserve our respect and appreciation even if we don’t their share political views or affiliations.
Christina Fagerstal, Chair, Democratic Town Committee
Chris Wilson, Chair, Republican Town Committee
This was a classless, boorish act that denigrates our whole community.
It shouldn’t be that hard to for the police to investigate this as deer cannot be killed without a license in CT or NY and there are a limited number of those who cut up deer for meat.
