Planet New Canaan would like to thank everyone that supported and participated in our third annual Tree Cycling initiative.

Our collective efforts filled the Steve Benko Pool Parking lot and kept over 800 trees from ending up in landfills. In partnership with the Town of New Canaan and using grant money provided by the New Canaan Exchange Club, the trees  collected were chipped into mulch and will be spread on the trails of the New Canaan Nature Center.

Thank you to the NCHS SLOBS for once again volunteering to help unload trees on the weekends and for doing a litter cleanup of the parking lot. Thank you to all of the local shops, Walter Stewarts, the New Canaan Exchange Club, the NewCanaanite and NCMoms Facebook Group for supporting our efforts with flyers and multiple reminders about the Tree*Cycling initiative.

We loved seeing friends, neighbors and meeting new people as they came through the Steve Benko Pool parking lot to drop off their trees. The story one father told about his preschool age daughter summed up the process best. He told us that his daughter was sad to say goodbye to their Christmas Tree until he told her that she would soon be walking on her tree during her preschool outings at the New Canaan Nature Center.  When you catch the subtle smell of balsam walking the trails, may it bring back memories of one of your favorite Christmas Trees.
