Police on Tuesday night cited a 63-year-old New Canaan for simple trespass following an incident downtown.

At about 7 p.m. on Aug. 24, an officer on patrol was waved down by an employee of an East Avenue business, according to a police report.

The employee was trying to secure the business’s parking lot with a chain for the night, but a vehicle the man was driving was parked in the lot, the report said.

It’s clearly posted there that the lot is only for people using the business, it said.

Following an investigation, police cited the man, a resident of Hunters Creek Lane, for the infraction level offense. He must pay a fine or enter a plea.
