A Blast into Our Past! Library Launches 2nd Annual One Book New Canaan with Bill Bryson’s ‘One Summer: America, 1927’
Wednesday, March, 25, 2015 @ 6:00 pm - 8:30 pm
Clear your calendars for March! New Canaan Library announces a month-long slate of lively and informative events to celebrate its 2nd annual One Book New Canaan town wide read of Bill Bryson’s One Summer: America, 1927.
New Canaan Library encourages everyone in town to get involved by reading and discussing this epic narrative by bestselling author Bill Bryson. One Summer: America, 1927 zeroes in on a single summer in history when America truly came of age as a nation. This was the heady time of Prohibition, Lucky Lindbergh’s transatlantic flight, and Babe Ruth’s amazing 60 home run feat.
Kicking off the month long celebration will be a fun-filled nod to the speakeasy, when on the evening of Thursday, March 5 the Lamb Room will be transformed into an authentic Prohibition era Speakeasy complete with tastings of food and beverages from New Canaan merchants. Later in the month, learn how to do the 20’s dance craze, The Lindy Hop, delve into New Canaan’s local history, and experience a genuine flight simulator at the Library. A complete schedule of events – including book discussions, guest speakers, workshops, movies and performances – will be available in the next few weeks, all offering our community many fun and thought-provoking ways in which to explore the themes and subjects in “One Summer: America 1927.”
