Director of Connecticut Audubon Society Speaks at New Canaan Library: Landscaping for Birds, Butterflies and Other Critters

Thursday, April, 4, 2019 @ 6:30 pm - 7:30 pm

Free

With sponsorship from New Canaan Land Trust and Planet New Canaan, the Library presents an informative talk on how native trees, shrubs and other plants can help bring one’s yard to life. The talk will be presented by Patrick Comins, executive director of the Connecticut Audubon Society. The event takes place on Thursday, April 4 at 6:30 p.m. in the Adrian Lamb Room. Please register online at newcanaanlibrary.org.
Birds, butterflies and other wildlife can flourish in the right surroundings; adding native plants to one’s landscape design can bring a yard to life. Many of this area’s butterflies, moths and other insects have adapted to specific native plants for larval food and nectar sources. Planting or including those native shrubs, trees and other plants lends the benefit of attracting the beneficial insects and serves to provide seeds and fruit that the birds have become accustomed to seeking out. Native plants can make even the most suburban of neighborhoods a friendlier place for nesting and migrating birds alike.
