Sunday, November, 6, 2016 @ 11:15 am - 12:15 pm
FreePastors’ Forum – Sunday, November 6 at 11:15am in the Common Room, First Presbyterian Church of New Canaan. “Gun Violence & People of Faith,” Ron Pinciaro, Executive Director, CT Against Gun Violence. Did you know that Connecticut has for the third consecutive year been ranked by the Law Center to Prevent Gun Violence as having the second strongest gun laws in the nation. Despite those laws, someone in Connecticut owns 179 assault rifles, but if he’s your neighbor, you may never know. Another state resident has 175 of the semi-automatic rifles that can fire 30 rounds in 15 seconds, like the gun Adam Lanza used to kill 20 first graders and six adults at Sandy Hook Elementary School. A third firearms enthusiast keeps nearly 544,000 high-capacity magazines.
In fact, according to a Hearst Connecticut Media investigation into registration records, there were 51,763 assault weapons in private hands statewide at the end of August — enough to equip an army. In addition, 40,491 residents filed paperwork showing they owned ammunition magazines that hold more than 10 bullets.
Connecticut Against Gun Violence has a list of the top ten priorities for attacking the gun violence problem. The mission of Connecticut Against Gun Violence is to identify, develop, and promote passage of legislation designed to enhance gun safety. CAGV will pursue this mission at the local, state of Connecticut, and national levels through the political process.
