“Kosovo’s Special Crimes Court: Implications for Justice & Democracy”

Rudina Jasini, PhD, will speak at a World Affairs Forum/Fairfield County Bar Association event on February 2, 2016 at UCONN Stamford, Gen Re Auditorium, on “Kosovo’s Special Crimes Court: Implications for Justice & Democracy”. The program will begin at 5:45 p.m. with networking and refreshments, followed by the presentation at 6:15 p.m. The program will conclude at 7:30 p.m.

Dr Rudina Jasini is an attorney and researcher specializing in international criminal law and human rights law. Her doctoral research focused on the participation of victims of mass atrocities as civil parties in international criminal proceedings. Dr Jasini has been a visiting scholar at Harvard Law School and the Max Planck Institute for Foreign and International Criminal Law. She has taught tutorials in public international law and international criminal law at New College and Christ Church at Oxford University.
Prior to her time at Oxford, she worked for the UN International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY) in The Hague as a legal officer on the defence team in Prosecutor v. Haradinaj et al., the trial of the former Prime Minister of Kosovo and two co-defendants on charges of war crimes and crimes against humanity. Dr Jasini also has extensive experience as a legal consultant, including designing a research report on ‘Cambodian Perceptions of Victim Participation at the ECCC’ (Extraordinary Chambers in the Courts of Cambodia), as well as drafting amendments to the legislation and regulations governing the Albanian Supreme Court and National Chamber of Advocacy.

Dr Jasini is the recipient of numerous academic awards and author of several peer-reviewed articles on international justice. She has presented her work at various conferences and symposia. In April 2015, she was selected to be a member of the International Law Association Committee on Complementarity in International Criminal Law.

Dr Jasini holds a DPhil (PhD) from Oxford University, an MSc in Criminology and Criminal Justice from Oxford, an LLM in International Legal Studies from Georgetown University Law Center and a BA in Law from the University of Tirana.
