Lighting of the Lou Moreno Memorial Christmas Tree

Saturday, December, 6, 2014 @ 5:00 pm - 5:30 pm

The Exchange Club of New Canaan cordially invites you and your family to the first annual lighting of the Lou Moreno Memorial Christmas Tree at Kiwanis Park on Saturday December 6th at 5:00pm. Lou Moreno, former president of the Exchange Club and First Selectman of New Canaan, passed away during his term of office in 1996. The Club planted a blue spruce tree in his honor in commemoration of his service.

The tree lighting will be the finale of the town’s Holiday Stroll weekend. First Selectman Rob Mallozzi will recall some remembrances of Lou as well as Tucker Murphy, Executive Director of the Chamber of Commerce. Students from the New Canaan High School Choral program will perform a selection of music in the spirit of the holiday season. Nuccia Mazzonetto of Gelatissimo will provide hot chocolate, a rich and decadent recipe inspired by her Italian heritage.

The ceremony will be capped with a young student from Arts for Healing who will light the Christmas tree. Arts for Healing, founded by Karen Nisenson, provides music and art therapy to children with developmental needs and is one of the many local charities supported by the Exchange Club of New Canaan.

The annual Tree & Wreath sale begins on Saturday November 29th, it is the Club’s largest fundraising event enabling grants of more than $1,000,000 to twenty-two local charities over the past 10 years. The Exchange Club Parenting Skills Center in Stamford, whose mission is to break the cycle of child abuse and neglect, is the largest beneficiary of our fundraising efforts.

Kiwanis Park is located at 77 Old Norwalk Road in New Canaan.
