Men’s Club to learn lifesaving keys for cardiac arrests

March 6 @ 10:00 am - 11:30 am

Free

The New Canaan Men’s Club will learn about the lifesaving skills and medical equipment that can save lives from a sudden cardiac arrest survivor Friday, March 6, for its regular meeting in Morrill Hall at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church.
Since surviving his cardiac arrest in 2018, Todd Boe, has become an advocate for awareness about heart health and being prepared for emergencies since the day when his heart suddenly stopped with no warning. But because his family immediately provided cardio pulmonary resuscitation, applied an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) and other therapeutic techniques, he survived.
The club’s meeting will begin at 10 a.m. with Boe expected to begin his remarks around 10:40 a.m.
Boe now has a key role at Code One Training, one of the nation’s leading providers of CPR and emergency response training, where he helps equip individuals, businesses, and communities with the skills and confidence to save lives. He is also Executive Impact Manager with AED Team, a nurse-owned company committed to making lifesaving equipment accessible in public spaces.
Through AED Team, Todd advocates for expanding access to defibrillators through their innovative outdoor AED enclosures, which provide 24/7, 365-day access to lifesaving equipment in parks, sports fields and other high-traffic public areas where cardiac arrests can happen at any time.
Heart health is getting heightened attention this month as the New Canaan Health Department has been joining with other local health departments in a “Hands-Only CPR Challenge,” with a video demonstrating the technique. A two-question survey accompanies the video, with the town garnering the most participants winning the challenge.
In his presentation, Boe makes the case that sudden cardiac arrest can happen to anyone, anywhere, and being prepared can mean the difference between life and death.
The New Canaan Men’s Club has openings for new members, men 55-years old and above. For information about joining, email ncmens@ncmens.org.
