New Canaan Cares Father’s Forum: Parenting Through Social Pressure

Thursday, October, 16, 2014 @ 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Free

On Thursday, October 16th 7:00-8:30 pm, the much anticipated Father’s Forum on Parenting through Societal Pressures will return to the Outback Center. Jake Kircher, a recent addition to the New Canaan Cares speaking team, will be presenting this program to help parents empower their children with words and actions to handle external influences with confidence.

The Father’s Forum is a 6-part series with evening offerings scheduled throughout the year. A grant by the Department of Health and Human Services has made this unique programming possible.

This program will address the world our children are living in and what pressures they are facing on a daily basis. The goal will be to look at how societal pressure impacts their adolescent experience, their future and their choices. There will be discussion of parenting styles for each age and empowering your children to make healthy choices.

In speaking with Jake Kircher, he shared some of his thoughts on this program. Jake states that “the session will draw from my thirteen years of experience working with teens, my own experience as a father and from my own relationship with my dad”. Jakes shares that “we’re looking forward to having some high school students share about the cultural pressures that they are facing on the day in, day out basis”. Most importantly, Jake is “excited to talk about some parenting styles that will help our teenagers better respond to the pressures they face, and make healthy and wise choices”.

Meg Domino, PhD, Director of CARES, shares her enthusiasm for Jake Kircher’s involvement in the Father’s Forum. “Jake’s bandwidth among youth, and his ability to tap into the unique needs of New Canaan dads and working parents is a natural fit. Parents naturally want to provide a supportive and structured presence within the home, while having a chance to network with like-minded individuals. Jake’s warmth and experience brings a vital element, and male perspective to the mix of CARES parent education programs. Guest appearances by CARES high school youth leaders provide real-world examples, and a sense of hope and adventure to these evening offerings.”
