New program helps families understand and cope with mental illness

Monday, March, 14, 2016 @ 6:30 pm - 9:00 pm

Free

Parents, spouses and others who want to help loved ones with mental illness often find it challenging to maintain their own well-being. Family-to-Family meets that need with a free, 11-session program for family, partners, friends, caregivers and significant others of adults living with serious mental illness. Developed by the National Alliance on Mental Illness, it is taught by trained instructors who have first-hand experience in meeting the unique challenges faced by these families.

The course covers depression, bipolar disorder, anxiety disorders, schizophrenia and other psychiatric disorders. Participants learn how mental illness affects a person’s brain and behavior, the impact of medications, and how families can help. Workshops focus on empathy, communication and coping skills.

To register, contact Janet at (914) 527-2994 or Marietta at 203-329-8633. Or email: janet2527@gmail.com
Classes will be held at Westport Day School, 372 Danbury Road, Wilton 06897. Registration is required.
