As part of Mental Health Month, Stand Together Against Racism (STAR) has partnered with nationally-accredited Silver Hill Hospital to present “Social Media and Loneliness on Mental Health”, a ripped-from the headlines speaker event, to be held in-person on Tuesday, May 21 at The Martin Center at Silver Hill Hospital, New Canaan, CT. Harlem Globetrotter, Maxwell Pearce, player/ambassador, speaker and artist to share his first hand mental health experience.

From loneliness for people of all ages, to the influence of social media and bullying, especially for youth, top experts will discuss regarding mental health concerns and what we as individuals and community members can do to help ourselves and others.

In addition to experts from Silver Hill Hospital, Maxwell Pearce, a Harlem Globetrotter player/ambassador and also a frequent speaker and multimedia artist, will share his experiences and offer advice to those experiencing the effects of bullying and isolation.

Moderated by Silver Hill’s Director of Spiritual Care, esteemed speakers include:

– Immacula Cann, DNP, RN-BC, CHIEF NURSING OFFICER at Silver Hill Hospital
– Maxwell Pearce – Harlem Globetrotters, Speaker and Mixed Media Artist
– Elizabeth Ortiz-Schwartz, MD, DFAPA at Silver Hill Hospital

Event attendees will receive a FREE copy of The New York Times Bestseller from Surgeon General, Vivek H. Murthy, MD titled “Together (The Healing Power of Human Connection in a Sometimes Lonely World)” This book will expand on the panel discussion related to loneliness. Book reviews reinforce the importance of discussing the universal condition of loneliness:

“We have a massive, deadly epidemic hidden in plain sight: loneliness. It is as harmful to health as smoking and far more common. And as his gripping stories of the science and suffering make clear, we can do something about it. Together is fascinating, moving, and essential reading.”—Atul Gawande, author of Being Mortal

“Together made me rethink much of what I believe about physical health, public policy, and the human condition. By revealing America’s epidemic of loneliness—and then offering an array of remedies for the condition—Murthy has done a great service, and made Together the most important book you’ll read this year.”—Daniel H. Pink, #1 New York Times bestselling author of When and Drive

STAR encourages the New Canaan and neighboring communities to attend and embrace the open discussion of these mental health issues that are impacting so many today.
