State Senator Ceci Maher, D-26th District, will preview the issues likely to come before the 2024 General Assembly at the New Canaan Men’s Club meeting Friday, November 17th.
In her first term, Maher is chair of the General Assembly’s Children’s Committee and vice chair of the Committee on Higher Education & Employment Advancement.
The Men’s Club will meet in Morrill Hall at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church at 10 a.m., with Maher’s remarks scheduled to begin around 10:40 a.m.
Before being elected to represent New Canaan and nearby towns, Maher had a successful retail career. Later, she led the growth of educational opportunity programs at the Horizons National Student Enrichment Program for five years. Following that, she was executive director of Person-to-Person, growing the organization from serving 15,000 people to more than 25,000, ultimately providing food for more than 2 million meals per year. She then became interim executive director of Sandy Hook Promise, a national organization recognized as a leader in controlling gun violence.
Along with her professional activities, she has also been an active volunteer for local organizations. Maher graduated with a master’s degree in social work from Columbia University. As a licensed master social worker, Maher worked with children and youth in a psychiatric hospital.
