Wednesday, December, 4, 2019 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm

Free

New Canaan Public Schools (NCPS) hosts technology leader, writer and author Alex Salkever in a special presentation at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, December 4, 2019, at Saxe Middle School, 468 South Avenue, in New Canaan, CT. Parents and students, particularly students in middle and high school, are encouraged to attend. This program is free, thanks to the generous support of the South, East, West and Saxe Parent Teacher Councils, and the NCHS Parent Faculty Association

Mr. Salkever, the co-author of “Your Happiness Was Hacked: Why Tech Is Winning the Battle to Control Your Brain – And How to Fight Back,” will focus on helping us to better understand the impact of technology on the lives of our students, their parents and the family as a whole. In his talk, he will provide practical tools to help us purposefully and effectively use technology while protecting the well-being of our children and ourselves.

The first 100 people to arrive at the event will receive a copy of the book, “Your Happiness Was Hacked,” which have been generously purchased by New Canaan Cares for this event.

“We are fortunate to have such an expert as Mr. Salkever addressing a topic that is so vital to our students’ and to our own health and well-being,” said Dr. Bryan Luizzi, NCPS Superintendent of Schools. “His appearance continues the important work we are doing with Emotional Intelligence throughout the district, as we focus on educating the whole child. We thank the New Canaan PTCs and PFA for their generosity in presenting his appearance and New Canaan Cares for providing Mr. Salkever’s book.”

Alex Salkever is a technology leader and author. He has been a chief marketing officer, a Businessweek editor, a visiting researcher at Duke University, and a senior executive at leading technology companies including as Vice President at Mozilla. He pens columns regularly for Fortune and consults for numerous technology companies. He is also the father of two teenage children.

“Your Happiness Was Hacked,” co-written with Vivek Wadhwa, a professor at Carnegie Mellon and Distinguished Fellow at Harvard Law School, and published last year by Berrett-Koehler, explains how to avoid getting hooked on tech and how to define and control the roles that it is playing and could play in our lives.
