Community Lecture – Free, Open to Greater Community
Presented by
Dr. Michael Coyne
Professor, UCONN

Wednesday, March 13 | 7:00 – 8:00 PM

Vocabulary instruction is an essential component of a structured literacy approach. This presentation will describe what explicit systematic vocabulary instruction looks like – including selecting words to teach, developing student friendly definitions, teaching vocabulary in meaningful contexts, and providing opportunities for students to engage in deep processing of vocabulary through oral language activities. The presentation will also provide an overview of current research on early intervention and prevention of vocabulary difficulties.

Michael Coyne is Professor of Educational Psychology and the Coordinator of the Special Education Program at the University of Connecticut. He is also Co-Director of the Center for Behavioral Education and Research.
