Walk/Run to Benefit Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation
Saturday, June, 3, 2023 @ 8:30 am - 12:00 pm
The Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation (MMRF), the world’s largest nonprofit focused solely on myeloma research, will hold its annual MMRF Team for Cures Walk/Run: Norwalk on Saturday, June 3 at Calf Pasture Beach in Norwalk, Conn. The family-friendly event raises crucial funds to accelerate a cure for each and every myeloma patient through research, awareness, patient education and community support. The event will be held in-person and virtually to help to continue this important work. Registration is open on the MMRF website.
The June 3 fundraising event begins at 8:30 a.m., with the Walk/Run starting at 9 a.m. at Calf Pasture Beach in Norwalk. As participants cross over the finish line, local classic rock band, The Adults, will perform.
The MMRF Team for Cures program features 15 Walk/Runs across the country, and participants can join in-person or virtually. Participation brings the myeloma community together for camaraderie and knowledge-sharing in a family-friendly fundraising event. For over 20 years, this landmark program has engaged patients, caregivers, supporters and their friends and families.
Multiple myeloma is a blood cancer of the plasma cells that develops in the bone marrow and can spread throughout the body. In 2023, it is expected to be diagnosed in 35,000 Americans and to take the lives of 12,000. Despite many advances in recent years, most patients relapse and there is still no cure.
Since the MMRF was founded 25 years ago, the non-profit organization has committed more than $500 million for research, opened nearly 100 clinical trials, and helped bring over 15 FDA-approved therapies to market, which have tripled the life expectancy of myeloma patients.
