New Canaan Police on May 19 arrested a 54-year-old man by warrant in connection with a series of expletive-laden, threatening text messages that had been sent following a dispute in January.
The initial dispute occurred on the afternoon of Jan. 15, a Thursday, according to police. Two New Canaan parents—the man, then 53, and a 38-year-old woman—each were charged with disorderly conduct after the latter discovered that her minor son “had purchased alcohol” with the man’s daughter, according to the affidavit of Officer Carlos Prado that forms the major part of an arrest warrant application signed Jan. 26 by a state Superior Court judge.
Following an investigation, police also charged the man—who gave authorities a River Street address at the time—with third-degree assault. His misdemeanor summons specified that “the defendant shall not commit any local, state or federal crime,” Prado said in the affidavit.
Yet hours later, police were dispatched to the woman’s New Canaan home on a report of “threatening text messages” sent between approximately 4:30 and 8:30 p.m, the arrest warrant application said.
The first message, sent at about 4:30 p.m., which beings “Listen Paco,” includes the following: “Listen to me … if you EVER speak to my daughter again … If you [expletive] LOOK in her direction. I happened to own a News Channel with MILLIONS of followers. I will make a FEATURED NEWS Titled: ‘Are they from Guatemala??? Or are they from the year 1836??’ ” It also says, “The ONLY REASON you don’t have ICE at your door right now is my daughter begged me.”
The next message, sent at about 4:56 p.m., includes: “You will NOT ruin my daughter’s birthday party. You low class jungle [expletive] monkeys. Wait for the FBI coming to your home now. For that gun. And I’m putting out an All Points Bulletin to my 8 million viewers.”
The third message, sent at about 7:46 p.m., begins: “Hey Pablo. And your cleaning lady wife.” The text includes the following: “Are you READY … to go down on PERMANENT PUBLIC RECORD???? 8.5 million people are tuning in [homophobic slur]. I’m going to OUT you to the world!!! Better hope that 200k DUMB ASS truck can save you now. Your momma is gonna see this. I’m giving you a personal invite.”
The next message, sent at about 8:27 p.m., includes: “You think your ‘money’ buys you POWER? You are jungle monkeys. Just wait til you SEE what is going on PERMANENT PUBLIC RECORD. Forget about the [homophobic slur] CT police. I have the FBI … sending you BACK to the jungle [expletive] wiper. You … [expletive] with the wrong Dad. I’m gonna make you FAMOUS tonight.”
The final text, sent at about 8:30 p.m., includes: “I have the FBI … send you BACK to the jungle [expletive] wiper.”
Police charged him by warrant with second-degree harassment and violation of conditions of release after he “had been advised by the New Canaan Police Department to limit all unnecessary communication between himself and the [victim] family,” Prado said in the arrest warrant application.
Police arrested the man on those charges at about 4:15 p.m. on May 19, after a license plate reader hit on him at Old Stamford and Talmadge Hill Roads showed that the vehicle’s owner had an active arrest warrant, leading to a motor vehicle stop. He gave police a New York City address, according to a police report.
The man has not yet pleaded, according to Connecticut Judicial Branch records. He has been released on $40,000 bond in connection with the warrant arrest charges and now is scheduled for arraignment July 22.
