A 48-year-old Staten Island, N.Y. man was cited for pot possession after police, at a local inn on another matter, smelled marijuana emanating from his room.

It happened at about 10:03 p.m. on Jan. 3.

Officers smelled a strong odor of marijuana at an Oenoke Ridge Road building, and tracked it to a particular door upstarirs, according to a police report.

Hearing no answer, the contacted a desk clerk, who eventually let them into the room, the report said.

There, they saw the man emerging from a bathroom and showing signs, such as bloodshot eyes, of being under the influence of drugs, the report said.

He handed them a small amount of pot in a plastic bag as well as rolling papers, the report said.

Police issued an infraction summons for possession of less than .5 ounces of marijuana.

Police last week arrested 19-year-old Long Island man on misdemeanor drug charges after they found marijuana and smoking gear in his car during a motor vehicle stop.

The Huntington, N.Y. man ran a blinking red light at Main and Cherry Streets around 10:11 p.m. on Jan. 2, according to a police report.

Approaching the car after he’d stopped it on Cherry at East Avenue, the officer smelled marijuana and asked whether the teen had any pot, the report said. The driver (there was also an 18-year-old girl in the car) replied that there “may be a little,” police said.

Police found the ends of four marijuana cigarettes in the center console and inside a leather bag on the floorboard at the passenger’s seat was a smoking pipe, the report said.

Additionally, police found beer (Blue Moon, unopened), wooden and metal grinders with marijuana residue in both, digital scale, packs of rolling paper, two small jars with pot inside, a small Zip-Loc baggie with pot and two unidentified pills in an unmarked container.

The man said all the items were his. He was charged with possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of marijuana (more than .5 ounces, less than four) and possession of alcohol by a minor.

He was released on $250 bond and scheduled to appear Jan. 13 in state Superior Court in Norwalk.
