‘I Just Believed In It’: Stretch Lab Opens on Main Street

By Michael Dinan | February 24, 2019

One year ago, Adam Kanzer decided to a abandon what had become an unfulfilling career in advertising that had seen him commute to New York City daily, keeping him away from his young and growing family. Dad to two young kids in Westchester County, N.Y., Kanzer was inspired by a neighbor who had left her career in finance to launch franchises of a fitness-related business. “So I started investigating different franchise concepts and came across this one and it just naturally struck a chord with me,” Kanzer said Thursday afternoon, sitting cross-legged on one of the stretching tables on the main floor of Stretch Lab at 86 Main St. “I played sports my whole life. I’ve been a diligent stretcher and I was doing it long before it was a ‘thing’ to do.

‘Stretch Lab’ Fitness Boutique Planned for Main Street

By Michael Dinan | November 25, 2018

A boutique fitness studio that focuses on stretching is planned for a commercial space on Main Street. A Dobbs Ferry, N.Y. man has applied to Planning & Zoning for site approval so that Stretch Lab can be installed at 86 Main St. Stretch Lab is a “wellness concept that offers one-on-one assisted stretching and group stretching classes, to improve mobility and flexibility,” applicant Adam Kanzer said in his application. “Our demographics are equal parts men and women, and cover a range from young people to serious athletes to older people who are trying to stay active and continue the lifestyle they currently enjoy,” he said. Under the New Canaan Zoning Regulations, service establishments are permitted in the Retail A zone with site plan approval as long as a retail component faces the street and occupies a certain amount of the commercial space (see page 74 here).

The Planning & Zoning Commission is scheduled to consider the Stretch Lab application as well as similar application a little further up Main Street, for Club Pilates, at its regular meeting Tuesday.
