Congratulations to Cali Brannan and Alex Hutchins for being named NewCanaanite.com Athletes of the Week. It’s quite rare that a freshman makes a significant impact on a high school varsity team. That being said–there are few freshmen like Cali Brannan. The newest Rams running sensation has led the Girls Cross Country team in all of its meets this season, including a fourth-place finish at Tuesday’s event in Greenwich in which 5 teams participated.

The NewCanaanite.com Athlete of the Week is sponsored by Baskin-Robbins, Connecticut Sandwich Co., Joe’s Pizza and Mackenzie’s. Congratulations to Madeleine Gertsen and Alex LaPolice, NewCanaanite.com Athletes of the Week. Gertsen, a senior on the New Canaan varsity field hockey team, led the Rams to two wins in their first three games of 2014. Gertsen leads the team with three goals on the year, netting a pair of them in a 6-2 win against Danbury. Alex LaPolice had a terrific all-around performance in New Canaan’s season-opening win over Hand.
