Congratulations to Cali Brannan and Alex Hutchins for being named NewCanaanite.com Athletes of the Week.
It’s quite rare that a freshman makes a significant impact on a high school varsity team. That being said–there are few freshmen like Cali Brannan.

The newest Rams running sensation has led the Girls Cross Country team in all of its meets this season, including a fourth-place finish at Tuesday’s event in Greenwich in which 5 teams participated. With Brannan leading the way, New Canaan is now 10-4 on the season and is poised to make a strong showing in the upcoming FCIAC Championships at Waveny on October 16th.

It has been an up-and-down season for the NCHS Boys Soccer team in 2014, but one constant has been the play of midfielder Alex Hutchins. The senior co-captain sparked a huge 2-0 win over archrival Darien last week, scoring the first goal of the game. It was the first victory for New Canaan this season, and one that they followed up with a convincing 5-0 win over Harding in which Hutchins found the net again. With 9 contests left in the season, the 2-3-2 Rams are very much alive in the FCIAC East Division.
