Congratulations to Lauren Capone, NewCanaanite.com’s Athlete of the Week. The freshman golfer, 14, hit the first hole-in-one in varsity match play that anyone can remember. Using a pitching wedge from 105 yards, Capone on the 7th hole at Silvermine Golf Club hit the hole-in-one April 28 versus Wilton. New Canaan Rams girls’ golf head coach Priscilla Schulz said she has never seen a hole-in-one from a member of the team in her three years coaching the team, and spoke to past coaches who said the same thing.

The New Canaan Rams boys hockey team made an impressive run in the FCIAC playoffs, falling to eventual champion Darien in the semifinals. The newest Rams running sensation has led the Girls Cross Country team in all of its meets this season, including a fourth-place finish at Tuesday’s event in Greenwich in which 5 teams participated.

Congratulations to Madeleine Gertsen and Alex LaPolice, NewCanaanite.com Athletes of the Week. Gertsen, a senior on the New Canaan varsity field hockey team, led the Rams to two wins in their first three games of 2014. Gertsen leads the team with three goals on the year, netting a pair of them in a 6-2 win against Danbury. Alex LaPolice had a terrific all-around performance in New Canaan’s season-opening win over Hand.
