The NewCanaanite.com Athlete of the Week is sponsored by Baskin-Robbins, Connecticut Sandwich Co., Joe’s Pizza and Mackenzie’s.
Congratulations to Lauren Capone, NewCanaanite.com’s Athlete of the Week.
The freshman golfer, 14, hit the first hole-in-one in varsity match play that anyone can remember.
Using a pitching wedge from 105 yards, Capone on the 7th hole at Silvermine Golf Club hit the hole-in-one April 28 versus Wilton.
New Canaan Rams girls’ golf head coach Priscilla Schulz said she has never seen a hole-in-one from a member of the team in her three years coaching the team, and spoke to past coaches who said the same thing.
It’s Capone’s third hole-in-one, Schulz said—the teen had rolled in a pair of hole-in-ones when she was 11 and 12 years old with a driver, “but this was legit.”
“As a freshman, she broke into the starting lineup right away,” Schulz said. “She is a young golfer who shows a lot of skill and poise for someone who is 14 years old. She gets along well with everybody, works hard at the game and gets better and better.”
