Police on Monday night arrested an 18-year-old Bridgewater man and charged him with three counts of criminal violation of a restraining order, two counts of second-degree criminal mischief and third-degree assault.
At about 5:19 p.m., officers responded to a New Canaan home where the victim reported an assault that occurred in Lakeview Cemetery, according to police.
Authorities identified the teen as the suspect, according to a police report. Through an investigation, police established probable cause for the felony and misdemeanor charges, and arrested the teen at police headquarters.
He specifically violated a section of state law that says “A person is guilty of criminal violation of a restraining order when … such person, having knowledge of the terms of the order, (A) does not stay away from a person or place in violation of the order.”
A person is guilty of third-degree assault, under state law, when “with intent to cause physical injury to another person, he causes such injury to such person or to a third person” or “recklessly causes serious physical injury to another person or “with criminal negligence, he causes physical injury to another person by means of a deadly weapon, a dangerous instrument or an electronic defense weapon,” among other reasons.
Police withheld details of the incident, saying it’s a domestic matter.
The man was released on $100,000 bond and scheduled to appear Tuesday in state Superior Court.
