Former Thali Owner To Open ‘India’ Restaurant on Main Street

Just one day after news broke that Boulevard 18 had closed, the owner of a longtime New Canaan restaurant that shuttered temporarily in November said he will re-open in the space with a new name, brand and menu. Chef Prasad Chirnomula, known to locals for his successful restaurant Thali just down the road, said he will open ‘India’ at 62 Main St. toward the end of March or early April. “I couldn’t be more excited,” Chirnomula told NewCanaanite.com. The new restaurant will feature small plates of “different kinds of Indian food” including many locally sourced, according to Chirnomula.

Main Street Restaurant ‘Boulevard 18’ Closes After Four Years

C’est la vie. Popular French bistro Boulevard 18—a Main Street fixture for local diners with its haute cuisine, intimate seating, warm decor and summer patio for al fresco dining—has closed after four years in business, NewCanaanite.com has learned. White paper covered the restaurant’s windows on Saturday morning, with the word ‘Closed’ written in black marker on one sheet. A staff member at sister restaurant Strada 18 in Norwalk confirmed that the New Canaan eatery is closed. The restaurant, which opened in February 2012, was named as one of NewCanaanite.com’s Top 5 Most Romantic restaurants.

New Canaan Restaurants Prep for Al Fresco Dining Season

Despite rainy days forecast for the week ahead, New Canaan received true, prolonged tastes of spring with picture-perfect weather the past two weekends. With Spring at long last arrived in earnest, local restaurateurs such as Henry Rosenbaum of Boulevard 18 began preparation for the resulting demand for outdoor dining. “We are thrilled,” Rosenbaum said on a recent evening at Boulevard 18, also a top-5 most romantic New Canaan restaurants selection. “We had people out on Friday and Saturday night on the patio, which was the sign for spring.”

In addition to the idyllic al fresco dining on Main Street at Boulevard 18, New Canaan’s “Restaurant Row” has several options, including Cava, Tequila Mockingbird and the soon-to-be-reopened Farmer’s Table where chef Robert Ubaldo and partner Lucia Leone are working nonstop to get the former Bistro Bonne Nuit space ready for business. NewCanaanite.com received an impromptu peek at the new Farmer’s Table space, which will feature an open kitchen and rustic design in addition to the sidewalk patio.
