New Canaan 4th in State in Dog Licensing [TABLE]; Now Is the Time

June is “Dog Licensing Month” and town officials are urging residents with canine pets to get them licensed in one of three ways. Applications are available here and may be mailed to the New Canaan Town Clerk’s office or delivered in person at Town Hall. Those renewing their dogs’ licenses may do so online here so long as the Town Clerk’s office has up-to-date proof of rabies vaccinations. Dogs who are spayed or neutered cost $8 to license, otherwise $19. The licensing period ends June 30, after which time dog owners face a late fee.

Delinquent Dog Licenses: New Canaan Residents Face $75 Per-Animal Fine

Two New Canaan dog owners face $150 in fines they fail to re-license their dogs prior to deadlines set by Animal Control after multiple requests to get it done, officials say. Now eight months late, the owners—one a Wellesley Drive woman with two Labrador retrievers, the other a Valley Road woman who has a Jack Russell terrier and toy poodle—will be fined $75 per dog if they don’t re-license by Feb. 13 and 19, respectively, said Animal Control Officer Maryann Kleinschmitt. Dog owners are to renew their pets’ licenses each year by July 1 (new residents who have dogs get 30 days after moving in to obtain a license). Dog owners can renew licenses online and it costs $8 per spayed or neutered animal.

New Canaan’s Most Popular Dog Breeds; Licensing Deadline Monday

Monday, June 30 is the last day that New Canaan dog owners can license their pets with town without risking a late fee. State law requires that all dogs six months old (or older) be licensed in the town in which they reside. Proof of current rabies vaccination is required. More information is available here, including the registration form. In all, 2,924 dogs were registered in New Canaan for the 12-month period that ends Monday, according to Animal Control Officer Maryann Kleinschmitt.
