Offer Accepted on Neglected, Historic Main Street Home

 

A bank has accepted a prospective buyer’s offer on the 1780 home at 4 Main St.— just before St. Michael’s Lutheran Church as you climb up toward Oenoke Ridge at God’s Acre. Nobody has lived in the 10-room, 7,000-square-foot home for at least one year, according to officials with the Historic District Commission, and it’s fallen into disrepair. This week—prior to actually purchasing the antique home—New Canaan resident Janet Drexler went before the commission to gauge the possibility of making some upgrades (mostly for safety reasons) to the driveway, a railing and the garage. The commission signs off on external changes to 21 buildings located within the district.

Accomplished Sports Duo Purchases New Canaan Home

 

This week’s list of recent property transfers includes the purchase of a home on the western side of town by Gigi Fernandez and Jane Geddes—standouts in professional tennis and golf, respectively, both of whom now work in Stamford (more on Fernandez and Geddes below). 1952 Fairty Drive Cape Coming Down, New Construction Planned

 

A 1952 Cape Cod home on Fairty Drive with 1,835 square feet of living space soon will be demolished to make way for a new 5,000-square-foot home. The 3-bedroom, 2-bath home at 59 Fairty Drive sold in January for $850,000. On March 5, the town issued a permit to raze it. Now, an application has gone to the Building Department for a 5-bedroom residence with four full bathrooms, two half-baths, a finished attic and 2-car attached garage. The construction (contractor is Dario Palladino & Son Construction of Stamford) is estimated to cost $550,000.
